Anti-wrinkle injections

Rebecca Devine Aesthetics offers safe, effective anti-wrinkle treatments from our  clinic in Leatherhead, Surrey. We’re fully qualified and insured to administer botulinum toxin, otherwise known as Botox, Azzalure, Dysport and Xeomin amogst others.

Wrinkles are a natural part of the ageing process but that doesn’t necessarily mean that you can’t do anything about them. Anti-wrinkle injections are a relatively painless treatment, and although there are a number of precautions to take afterwards, see our AFTER CARE guidance, there’s no down time.

Anti-wrinkle injections have been used aesthetically for more than 20 years. They’re safe and effective with effect taking immediately and full effect about 14 days. Anti-wrinkle injections can last anywhere between 3 to 6 months and our clients who have been having them regularly for some years notice that after a time the wrinkles disappear and they stop needing injections at all.

The areas we treat are frown lines, crows feet and the lines in the forehead between the eye brows.

How Do Botulinum Toxin Injections Work?

Your facial muscles are constantly moving – and some move more than others.

The wrinkles that you may see on your forehead and around your eyes are formed by these moving muscles. If you squint or smile, over time you’re likely to develop fine lines through grooves being formed beneath the surface of the skin. For example, if you have a very expressive face, you may develop forehead wrinkles sooner than those who don't.

Anti-wrinkle injections temporarily stop the signals from facial nerves from communicating with the corresponding muscle. In other words, they interrupt the muscles’ neurotransmitters, preventing them from contracting thus stopping wrinkles from forming.

Only available after a thorough consultation, if you’re suitable we can treat you immediately. We understand how facial muscles work and know how to deliver great results.

How Long Does the Treatment Last?

In general, you’ll need a top up every 4 months or so. However, there’s excellent news: over a more extended period of anti-wrinkle injections, your facial muscles could stop “working” so hard. So, you may be able to have longer gaps in between treatments.

After Care for Anti-wrinkle injections

After treatment the skin may be red, swollen and sometimes bruised at the injection sites. These after-effects will resolve naturally, usually within a few days however it may take up to 2 weeks for more extensive bruising to resolve. Occasionally you may experience a headache after treatment which may last 1-2 days. Usually this is controlled by taking simple over the counter pain killers such as paracetamol. Please follow the aftercare advice for Botox/Anti-Wrinkle injections. • Avoid applying makeup to the treated area for 24 hours, this can help reduce the risk of infection. • Avoid any extremes of temperature for the next 24 hours, for example have a tepid shower or bath rather than hot. • Avoid exercising or strenuous activity for the first 24 hours post-treatment. • Do not go swimming or use saunas or steam rooms for at least 24 hours post treatment. • No excessive alcohol on the day of the treatment. • Do not lie flat or face down for at least 4 hours after treatment. Remain upright for 4 hours after treatment, this can help to reduce product migration. • Avoid touching or rubbing the treated after for at least 24 hours after treatment, doing so may affect treatment results. • Avoid any further cosmetic procedures to the treated area for 2 weeks following treatment, including permanent makeup and skin treatments. • You must seek medical attention and contact your practitioner if you experience any signs or symptoms of infection after treatment. Infection can present as hot, red shiny skin, there may be pus formation and you may have a fever or feel generally unwell. • You must seek emergency medical attention if you experience any severe allergy symptoms after treatment. Symptoms may include rash, facial swelling and breathing difficulties. • Contact your practitioner as soon as possible if you notice any other unwanted side effects. • Allow 2 weeks before assessing results of treatment. If after 2 weeks there is any persistent unevenness or the product has not fully taken contact your practitioner for review.
